Honors Biology: Summer Course
Honors Biology is designed for students who are intent on learning biology with the idea of taking further high level science courses both in high school and in college. The approach is molecular with an emphasis on the interrelatedness of all earth’s organisms, i.e. evolution. While this course covers the same topics as in CP Biology, students are expected to put in more independent work and to cover the topics in greater breadth and depth. These topics include: biochemistry of life; energy flow and nutrient cycling; structures and functions of cells; diversity and interdependence of organisms; DNA and relatedness; heredity and genetics; evolution. Processes such as photosynthesis, cellular respiration, DNA replication, protein synthesis, mitosis, meiosis, inheritance and evolution are discussed and demonstrated using current technology. Current bioethical topics are discussed throughout the course.
